I’m a creative problem solver and design leader with nearly two decades of professional experience and with half of that leading and developing top performing Product and UX Design Teams. I enjoy the challenges of understanding an environment from the 10,000ft view, making sense of the grey area, and connecting the dots in order to create large scale seamless experiences. I’m a design evangelist, a creator of culture, and an advocate for my team. I’m a believer that great design should go unnoticed by the user and should intuitively and effortlessly guide them to achieve success.
I have a long track record of building and developing high performing teams, a positive culture, and as an advocate for diversity and inclusion. I love to surround myself with people that I can learn from and who have differing points or views, experiences, and ideas—the more variety the better. I am dedicated to paying it forward and supporting others’ career development and look forward to the day that one of my team members might soon become the next leader that offers me a role on their team.
Work Experience
Head of Identity Experiences
2022 – present • Capital One
As of Summer 2022 I now lead the Identity Experiences Design Team at Capital One. In this role I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to learn about new and emerging technologies and am fortunate enough to be leading an incredibly talented team. What interested me most in this role was both returning to an innovation oriented focus area but also exploring the tension between what we can do with emerging technologies versus what we should do or what our customers will be likely to adopt. Solving these problems and exploring the opportunities to thoughtfully solve for customer needs, at times before they recognize the need themselves, is sure to be challenging and exciting all at the same time.
UX Director: Small Business Card
2019 – present • Capital One
Returning to Capital One in September of 2019 I was truly fortunate to find a role and team that would leverage past experiences and passions; and as a small business owner myself I am able to bring personal context and experience to every conversation. In this role I co-lead a team of ~50 designers (UX/UI, Design Strategy, Research, Content Strategy, Design Ops, etc) across two LOB’s (Small Business Card and Bank) who collectively support a common customer — Small Business Owners. As a strategic thought leader on this team I am responsible for leading several teams supporting high priority initiatives and work streams across the org, building a positive team culture that supports transparency, inclusion, career development, etc.
In this role one of my career highlights included building a research team and practice from 1 researcher to 9 over the course of 18 months resulting in a HUGE organizational culture change and brought the voice and needs of our Small Business customers to the forefront. By increasing visibility of research and discovery and though tearing down organizational silos the investment in design exponentially increased from 20 to near 50 designers supporting Small Business customer experiences.
Head of Design & Branded Experiences
2018 – present • Snag (formerly Snagajob)
Managing and developing a team of 20+ designers of varied disciplines and skillsets across product, UX, and marketing who are repositioning Snag as no longer a job board but a marketplace for hourly work services and products serving millions of job seekers and employers.
Product & Experience Innovation Director
2016 – 2018 • Snag (formerly Snagajob)
As a founding member of the Innovation Lab at Snag I was responsible for developing products and services set to reimagine the ‘future of work’. Our first effort, a gig economy platform now called Snag Work, has been called the ‘Uber for work’, has launched successfully in 2 U.S. markets filling thousands of shifts monthly in each and at hundreds of business locations. In 2019 we will launch in 7 new markets and by 2020 will be active in 25.
Head of Design Language & Systems
2007 – 2016 • Capital One
While at Capital One I led several enterprise level initiatives including the design and delivery of platform migrations, building of component based platform systems, creation of accessibility and content strategy teams, and in 2013 I led the design and strategy for launching a 2,500 page responsive web experience at capitalone.com— the first top 10 bank world wide to launch a fully responsive web site and marketplace.
By 2015, I was owning and developing design languages and systems, partnering with Brand and Engineering to define standards & best practices in order to deliver a fully immersive set of guidelines leveraged by thousands of employees and agencies delivering on behalf of the company.
